Counter-Strike Returns to Australia

Soon, 16 of the world’s best Counter-Strike teams will be heading to Melbourne for IEM 2025. The tournament runs from April 21 to 27, and it’s being held at Rod Laver Arena — a venue more famous for tennis than esports., Now it’s being turned into a massive stage for professional CS2.

Fans have been quick to show their support. Tickets for the event sold out in just a few hours across all three release dates. That’s no surprise, considering top teams like Vitality, NAVI, FaZe, and MOUZ are attending.

This tournament also brings a strong level of competition. The average HLTV ranking of the teams is 13.4, which makes it the most competitive LAN event of the year so far.

Vitality is arriving as one of the top contenders. They’ve already won two big events in 2025 — IEM Katowice and ESL Pro League Season 21 — and a win in Melbourne would give them three major trophies on three different continents. Star player ZywOo also has a shot at tying s1mple’s record for most MVP awards at an IEM event.

But while all eyes may be on the favorites, there’s another story that’s just as important — and it starts with the only local team in the tournament.

FlyQuest Carries Australia’s Hopes

For fans in Australia, one team stands out: FlyQuest. They’re the only Australian team at IEM Melbourne, and they’ll be playing in front of a home crowd that hasn’t seen top-level Counter-Strike live since 2024.

FlyQuest is made up of familiar names for local fans — INS, Liazz, Vexite, nettik, and regali. Most of these players were part of Grayhound in the past, and they’ve stayed together under the FlyQuest banner. They’ve been through international events before, but playing at home is a different experience.

Their first match is a big one. They’ll be going up against Vitality, one of the tournament favorites. It’s a tough start, but FlyQuest will have the crowd on their side.

Australian fans have a reputation for being loud and passionate, especially when they’re backing a local team. Events like IEM Sydney in the past have shown how much home support can matter. Visiting teams have even said that the noise and energy make it hard to concentrate.

No one expects FlyQuest to win the tournament. But if they can push a top team like Vitality and maybe pull off a surprise, it could turn into one of the most talked-about moments of the event.
